Adult Mental Health First Aid Champion

Face-to-Face or Virtual Delivery

Course Aim

"A manager mental health training programme could lead to an associated return on investment of £9.98 for each pound spent.”

Thriving at Work, Stevenson/Farmer, 2017

MHFA England training is a key component for creating a safe, healthy workplace where the mental health and physical health of employees are valued equally.

Suitable for those in a leadership position who want to be able to manage mental health in the workplace and keep people in work supporting good occupational safety and health.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Recognise the main signs and symptoms of common mental health issues

  • Provide initial support to the Mental Health First Aiders and those needing support

  • Guide a person towards appropriate professional help

  • Develop an understanding of how you can create and maintain a healthier workforce.

Impact of Training

Investing in MHFA Champions within the workplace means having a preventive approach to mental health issues. Encouraging activities that model and promote healthy behaviours and encourage others to proactively look after themselves.

Having leaders who are MHFA Champions gives opportunities to open dialogue about mental health within workplaces. This leads to recognising the early signs of mental health issues and therefore being able to signpost to appropriate sources of support and professional help. In many cases avoiding escalation of symptoms and preventing absence.

Improving the ethos of the organisation/ school. Through knowledge there is reduced stigma and fear of judgment. MHFA Champions can gather employee feedback on how to improve mental health at work and give a voice to those who may not normally wish to speak up.
